There is a circuit court in each city and county in Virginia. The circuit court is the trial court with the broadest powers in Virginia. The circuit court handles all civil cases with claims of more than $25,000. It shares authority with the general district court to hear matters involving claims between $4,500 and $25,000.

121-0001 Warwick County Courthouses - Virginia

NRHP Reference Number 88002186. Surrounded by sprawling suburban development, the former county-seat settlement at Denbigh preserves the two historic courthouses of the now-extinct Warwick County. The 1810 courthouse is a small T-shaped brick structure fronted by a carefully articulated Doric portico. The building was converted to the clerk’s office when the 1884 courthouse was built nearby, and it now serves as a visitors’ center.

Warwick County Courthouses - virginia.org

Two Warwick County courthouses, the earlier dating from 1810 and the subsequent structure built in 1884, are both located in what is today Newport News and are on the National Register of Historic Places. The early temple-fronted building, constructed with a three-room T-shaped plan, is one story in height and built of brick.
